Our XYZ SMX 3500 mill combines the flexibility of manual machining with the precision and repeatability of CNC technology making it ideal for prototyping, tooling or small / medium production runs. With 3 Axis CNC machining capability it allows us to produce complex profiles, precision drilled patterns, pockets, slots and contoured parts efficiently to high tolerances.

Compared to parts produced on our waterjet cutting machine, our CNC machining service offers different possibilities. As always, it is using the right tool for the job. CNC machining can either entirely replace the waterjet cutting process or can be used to complement it. CNC machining is likely to be the preferred or only choice when looking for:
- Higher dimensional precision beyond +/- 0.25mm
- Complex 3D shapes
- Blind features such as recesses or tapped holes
- Superior surface finishes
- Non standard thicknesses

At Hydromar we are experienced in machining a wide range of materials including but not limited to aluminium, mild steel, stainless steel, brass and a variety of plastics. As a team of problems solvers, with over 20 years’ experience offering a CNC machining service, we are well versed in utilising both our CNC Mill and Waterjet Cutting machines independently, or in conjunction with each other. This can allow us to alleviate the limitations of each machine and save our customers money in the process or produce parts that would not be possible with just one process.

Over the years we have machined a huge variety of parts in many materials, with aluminium being a popular material amongst our customers. You may only require added features to your profile such as counterbores, tapped holes or recesses. Alternatively your part may be better suited to being entirely machined. We are always happy to help and provide guidance to our customers, so that you can use the best processes to produce the desired results.
CNC machining is one of several processes available to us and expands the range of either finished or nearly finished products we can offer such as this power coated aluminium enclosure. These enclosures are designed to protect sensitive electrical or mechanical components while maintaining tight tolerances, durability with a premium finish.
Helping the environment
CNC machining can be a wasteful process, at least when compared to waterjet cutting – machining away lots of material, reducing a blank of metal down to the finished size. 85% of aerospace titanium never ends up in the aeroplane and is converted to scrap swarf in the machining process. By combining CNC machining with waterjet cutting, to produce near net parts, a higher material yield with less wastage can be achievable.
